The Terma Foundation

The Terma Foundation is an international humanitarian medical organization that develops integrated health programs to educate, research, treat and prevent illness in vulnerable communities. Founded in 1993, Terma operates in Tibet (Tibet Autonomous Region, China), Mexico, Myanmar, and Brazil and has reached over 1.5 million beneficiaries to date.

To provide innovative and sustainable health solutions for excluded populations, particularly indigenous peoples and marginalized communities.

To co-create and implement culturally-sensitive programs with grassroots partners and local health infrastructure which utilize appropriate technology while honoring traditional wisdom and world view.

Our objectives

  • Education
    To educate and train healthcare professionals and community members in culturally appropriate methods for reducing health risks and incidence of disease.
  • Research
    To research and develop solutions to health care problems using both traditional Tibetan and western knowledge and practices.
  • Treatment
    To provide diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation to Tibetans in partnership with national and local authorities, healthcare professionals, and traditional elders.
